On August 10, 2026, the Beaufort County Council approved Resolution 2026/32, authorizing the establishment of an Ad Hoc Committee. Applications are now open, and we invite Beaufort County residents interested in serving to apply by October 9.

This temporary, volunteer committee will help develop a long-term vision for animal services campus in Beaufort County and explore opportunities for continued collaboration with Jasper County and other partner agencies.

The committee will evaluate issues affecting animal services in both counties and develop recommendations for consideration by the Beaufort and Jasper County Councils. Its responsibilities will include:

• Work to align the animal control ordinances of Beaufort and Jasper counties
• Evaluate shared or joint animal shelter services and developing recommendations for each option considered
• Identify capital and infrastructure needs necessary to support the committee’s recommended outcomes
• Present other tasks/outcomes inspired by the Ad Hoc committee work

The committee will consist of seven appointed members—four representing Beaufort County and three representing Jasper County. Beaufort County residents who are interested in serving on the committee are encouraged to complete the application here.

Applications for Beaufort County’s four appointed positions will be reviewed by the Beaufort County Council Executive Committee, with final appointments made by County Council. Applications are due by October 9, 2026.
